The IRTE Fleet Engineer of the Year Awards 2018 recognise individuals who demonstrate the requirements of the fleet engineer role to an exceptional standard. The awards are open to all engineers working in road transport, including HGVs, buses, coaches and trailers.
The awards comprise two categories: HGV and Bus & Coach.
The entry process is easy to complete and is totally FREE.
The winners will be announced at the IRTE Conference dinner on Wednesday 26 September 2018, which takes place at The Leicester Marriott Hotel. All shortlisters will be invited to attend the three course dinner – you will be able to buy either a single seat or a whole table.
The IRTE is a professional sector of the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE), and one of the most respected names in UK transport. IRTE supports transport engineers throughout their careers and encourages high standards, with an emphasis on safety and best practice.
IRTE members come from a wide variety of transport-related roles including apprentices and technicians in both the light and heavy vehicle and bus and coach sectors, workshop managers, fleet engineers, transport managers, company directors and the Armed Forces.
Recognised as the impartial voice of the industry, IRTE believes safety in operation is vital. Recent initiatives include research into tipper stability and safety, fuel efficiency, wheel loss prevention and tail lift safety.
IRTE pioneered the irtec Licensing Scheme for technicians and mechanics. An irtec licence certifies the skills and safety of technicians and mechanics working in road transport.

The award is aimed at those who demonstrate a high level of engineering standards within their organisation whilst at the same time implementing their own innovations that improve operations and provide financial benefits to the company.
These standards may be demonstrated through data or other evidence of industry-leading levels of vehicle reliability, availability, safety, and first-time annual test pass rates. Examples of innovation may involve reducing fuel consumption and downtime for maintenance, increasing efficiency, or using technology to solve a specific problem. The judges will be looking for an individual that makes a significant contribution to a well-run fleet, and possesses a high level of technical and legal knowledge.
Supporting evidence must be provided that demonstrates the level of work undertaken by the engineer and the benefits that have come as a result of their work.

The award is aimed at those who demonstrate a high level of engineering standards within their organisation whilst at the same time implementing their own innovations that improve operations and provide financial benefits to the company.
These standards may be demonstrated through data or other evidence of industry-leading levels of vehicle reliability, availability, safety, and first-time annual test pass rates. The judges for the IRTE Fleet Engineer of the Year Awards have been drawn from the IRTE Technical Committee. They are all highly experienced, qualified transport professionals who champion world-class fleet engineering.

The judges expect entries to be clear and concise whilst demonstrating the qualities of the nominee. The evidence provided must plainly demonstrate the relevant aspect for which it is providing proof.
Entries will be passed to the judges, and each member of the panel will independently mark each entry, entrants may also be interviewed as part of the selection process. Finally, the judges will meet to debate who will become the overall category winner.
The judges may decide to award a highly commended in a category.

The IRTE Conference dinner is an opportunity for you to relax in the luxurious setting of The Leicester Marriott Hotel.
The evening begins with an informal champagne reception where you can network with industry peers. This is followed by the awards ceremony, which will be hosted by a leading figure from the road transport industry. A three-course dinner will be followed by after-dinner entertainment.
